But over the last few years, in an attempt to find cleaner products that are effective, smell good, and are still affordable, I have become quite the experienced shopper!
Summer Fridays: I treated myself to the Summer Friday experience a few months back! I decided to purchase the whole line as I hadn't yet been vaccinated and it had been a very very long while since I last indulged in any beauty treatments. My skin has thanked me! Each morning, in the shower, I use the Gel cleanser, which feels gentle and not drying. Then, I typically throw either the Overtime or R&R Mask on while I finish up in the shower. This is such a nice treat! Once out, I put the toner and cc serum on, prior to the Jones Road Miracle Cream (read about that next!). My one complaint, was that I was let down that there wasn't a daily day moisturizer in the set (or at all from this line it seems). The company has said that the Jet Leg mask can be used as a moisturizer, but I don't prefer it under makeup, so it's not of help to me in the day time!
I had high hopes for their Lip Butter Balm, and while it smelled good and was truly balmy and wonderful on my lips, it was too sticky overall and, the tube would not stop leaking butter balm! It was a butter balm catastrophe. Customer service was great, and when I reached out to let them know about the trouble I was having (and how much product I was subsequently losing) they sent a replacement...which although it also ultimately oozes balm, did showcase their quality customer service skills.
This set was a bit of an investment, more than I usually spend, and while I do really enjoy the products, I will probably look to give something even cleaner, and hopefully less expensive, a try once this runs out! : ) Jones Road Beauty: This is a brand that I recently found...and like all good Instagram promotional posts....it drew me in! The reason I decided to give it a try was because 1. It is a brand created by Bobbi Brown 2. It is CLEAN beauty 3. I love the idea of balm products, for both it's moisturizing purposes as well as it's lighter coverage/glow effect!
I have used the Jones Road Miracle Cream and Eye Cream for a month now. And I am hooked. It is a veil of moisture without being greasy and I love knowing that I am not introducing parabens and chemicals into my system. At $35.00 it's affordable enough, especially when you consider the size of the products! After a month, it doesn't appear that I've made a dent in the moisturizer, so if I had to guess, $35.00 is a 6 month investment at minimum!
I will post about makeup another time, but the Miracle Balm and The Face Pencils are fast favorites as well!
(BTW, not ads....just plain ol love!)
I will tell you, that for many years, I went to bed without washing my face....(gasp)....I know... But, maybe it's the wisdom of 34 that has caused me to force myself to stop to wash my face and apply moisturizer before bed. When I go up, I use my Summer Fridays cleanser and Jet Lag mask. The nice thing about this particular mask, is of the three from the SF line, this one does not need to be washed off. So a small amount before bed, is the perfect way to help my skin adjust to the change of seasons especially!
I accidentally found the shampoo/conditioner of my dreams two weeks ago from Target. It smells so amazing that I have a crush on myself when I get a whiff of my newly washed hair. The product details boast being paraben, sulfate, propylparaben, formaldehyde and butylparaben FREE. It's made with aloe juice, coconut water, electrolytes, yogurt, argan oil and silk proteins...and it smells like what I imagine heaven smells like. It's a 12 oz. bottle, but if you only wash your hair every few days (like me) it will last you a while....and...don't tell the Manufacturer, but I would pay more than $8.99 a pop for this.
Just for Fun:
Nail Polish: Okay, let's talk about a product that I love the results of, but I am not as proud about using. Disclaimer - it is not clean. Once upon a time, when I was a public school teacher, I used to get my nails done every two weeks...a gel manicure would last through the school days, cooking and cleaning around the house and my waitressing job on Sunday nights...but it was expensive and ultimately so damaging to my nails. They would become soft and even discolored from the Gel treatment, UV dryer and especially, the dreaded acetone soak and scraping to remove it! I present to you....my favorite home nail polish ever...Essie Gel Couture Polish. Click here for Color and Top Coat Gel! It WORKS. I was skeptical, as I have tried home 'gel' polishes before. They have never lasted. But, after doing my nails over a week ago, I have purposefully been rough and avoided protecting my hands with gloves while deep cleaning the house, doing dishes, cooking and even while building a fort at Sandy Hook with my little charge! This nail polish dried quickly, even after two color coats. The gel top goat, dries and hardens to smooth color protection, without UV light. My favorite parts...no chips thus far, and it easily comes off with the organic soy nail polish remover that I use from Whole Foods! Score! So far I own the colors Of Corset - pictured above and Graced in Garnet! I have found that these colors are less expensive through Amazon than they are from Target...and the prices vary depending on the popularity of the color (typically between $8.00 and $12.00 per bottle).
What's better than nice smelling, dry pits? : ) I really do love this product! The Schmidt's Rose and Vanilla Natural Deodorant Stick (and the Sage and Vetiver scent) is a treat to the senses. Like most natural products, if you are going to find yourself in a particularly sweaty situation, you may want to pack it for a reapplication, but truly I am impressed by this stuff!
I hope that this run down of some of my go-to products has been helpful...and if you are feeling the desire to incorporate something new into your self-care and beauty routine, or use a product that you love, I hope you will share your findings in the comments so that we can all benefit!
